Striking the Balance
Results happen.  It's how they measure up to your goals that matters.

Both success and failure frequently frustrate athletes in their pursuit of achieving their potential.  Everyone forgets that neither success nor failure is objective.  The only success that I guarantee 100% of the time is if you take an action, you will get a result.  The only guaranteed failure is to take no action.  Active and fluid goal setting, both on the individual and the team level, enable the confidence and self-awareness to know how to handle what would otherwise be difficult situations.  Confident and self-aware players and teams are the hardest to beat.  Confidence and self-awareness also find their way off the court, too, where it really matters most.

What makes Legion Volleyball different?
Most club volleyball teams, high school teams, and coaches are doing everything in their power to make their program the best they can today.  They take all their tricks and systems and try to keep them secret so they can keep their competitive advantage.  This keeps the sport from really growing, and the competition from becoming as competitive as possible.  For years, I've witnessed certain regions of the country languish behind others at the highest levels of competition.  This comes from a shortage of good coaches and good competition.

Legion wants to share tips, strategies, and training techniques that offers players maximum opportunity to improve quickly and build a strong foundation for future growth and enjoyment of the game in North Jersey.  Legion offers coaches a combination of theory sessions and hands on experience working with individual athletes, groups, and teams.

Legion Volleyball offers group clinics, team clinics, classes, and trainings either at our gym or at your own.

Court space is limited, so sign up for team tryouts, classes, and clinics in advance as forms become available.

Class and Clinic Details

Tuesday Night Trainings:  2 hours of volleyball fundamentals.  Working on solid ball contact, good footwork, awareness of proper posture and balance, solid "ready" positions for each skill set, approaches, and general ball control drilling.  Through mid January, Trainings will focus exclusively on general ball control.  Starting late January, more specific topics will include setting, blocking, jump serving, team style drills, and much more.

Boot Camp:  10 sessions with Coach Roman, each lasting 4 hours.  Guaranteed to provide the instructional equivalent of 2-3 average seasons of high school coaching.  This Boot Camp is available both to players and to coaches.  Coaches have two additional 4 hour sessions required prior to the arrival of the students.  This is a comprehensive program intended to ground individual and team concepts into players.  Space is limited to 12 players per court to maximize learning opportunities for players.  Multiple players from the same team are encouraged to attend.  The next session is planned for early 2010.

Team Trainings:  2-4 hour sessions done at the team's gymnasium facility.  This is the most cost effective method, per player.  Coach Roman focuses on fundamentals and basic team concepts, developed in conjunction with needs identified by the team's current coach.  All age groups are welcome to take advantage of this.  Contact Coach Roman for costs.

Adult Mini-camps:  1-4 hour sessions geared to refining fundamentals, working on proper technique to maximize results and minimize risk of injury.

Summer Day and Week Camps:  For Summer 2010, Indoor Grass Courts, fully climate controlled, I will offer camps of various length throughout the summer to help volleyball players become fully prepared to make the team in the upcoming season.

Leagues:  Keep an eye out for 8 team indoor grass Legion Leagues, looking to start in the Spring of 2010.

Legion Volleyball primarily runs camps and clinics out of the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of NJ at 60 North Jefferson Road in Whippany, NJ, and trainings out of Kozak Sports Center at 6 Middlebury Boulevard, in Randolph, NJ.

As a reminder for players, practice times this season are on Mondays from 4PM to 7PM and Saturdays from 8AM-11AM for both teams.  Weight training at Planet Fitness on Rt 10 in Powder Mill West (by Minado and Cinnamon) is from 4:30 to 6:00 on Thursdays.
