Legion Team
Teams will meet for 2 practices per week for a total of at least 6 hours of training. The season will progress from working on fundamentals, through developing good self-goaling and evaluation habits, effective transitions, team blocking, defensive, and audible offensive systems, and all the little intangibles players and teams need to learn to be successful and develop a winning attitude.
Practice times will be set shortly, and will run from the end of November through the end of May.
Our goal is to get players into about 10-12 tournaments this season. Teams will play in GEVA Juniors tournaments, AAU tournaments, the MLK Classic in PA, NEQ, and Penn State, and at least one other large tournament either in Washington DC or in Massachussetts.
There will be approximately 100-150 hours of structured practice time and scrimmages in addition to our tournament schedule,as tournaments will eat into our practice schedule occasionally.
Legion is focused on developing players, and in having players develop their own skills and resources under the watchful eyes of multiple coaches have had great success both as players and as coaches.
The Legion Volleyball coaching model involves drills that engage players in all skill areas of the game, and provide opportunities to work on their game. The drills are structured to maximize the number of ball touches in any given period of time, and to become as game-like as possible as the season progresses. Player improvement is dependent on the effort of players during drills and commitment to try new things and incorporate new perspectives and recommendations. Practices are structured to be challenging and rewarding, as well as fast paced and sometimes even fun! Motivated players who are properly challenged always rise to the occasion.
Because of our innovative structure and our focus on transparency and affordability, our goal is to offer "National Team" caliber coaching and development at little more than "Local Team" pricing as it is seen at other clubs throughout Morris County. Focused drills and skills work will help players develop core fundamentals as well as the key decision sets that will help them succeed beyond the practice court. All players have the same access and opportunity to get the same level of feedback and growth.
As coaches, we pride ourselves in our ability to work with players individually to try to understand how best to make each technique element, strategy component, and transition movement make the most sense and get the greatest possible result. We try not to let opportunities for improvement go by without making certain each player and each coach gives it our best possible effort.
